Nicky Thomas and James Marriott are launching a new podcast called ‘Every Day’s a Business School Day’ aimed at helping more businesses to be ‘top of their class!’
Nicky Thomas, Founder of The Growth Community and podcast strategist, James Marriott from Sound Media are looking forward to working together on a new podcast project which will help business owners learn valuable hints and tips for running their business more effectively.
Did you go to Business School?
To be frank, not many of us start new business ventures armed with a great deal of knowledge.
We’re way more focused on what our business will sell – not all the admin, accounts, processes etc. We just kind of ‘wing’ all that to begin with.
It’s only a bit further down the line that we start to feel out of our depth.
If this is sounding familiar, then you’ll want to tune into the ‘Every day’s a business school day’ podcast. Join fellow classmates in learning how to address all those pesky things in business that we didn’t get around to learning before we found ourselves knee deep in them.
What’s the podcast all about?
As avid networkers, Nicky and James have met – and learned from – a lot of people in the business arena. They’ve both ‘been there’ with their own business growth challenges too. This podcast will feature a lot of the things that they wished they’d known when they started their own businesses.
Each fortnight they’ll chat to professionals, who are either experts in their field, or have experiences to share that they think will really help others. And they’ll ask guests to set ‘homework tasks’ to give listeners something useful to start working on straight away.
Where did the idea for the podcast come from?
Nicky: “As Founder of a business networking community, I meet a lot of businesses owners at all different stages of their journeys. I see the same issues cropping up at similar points in the process and I see the negative effect it can have on them when they are stuck. The great thing about networking is that there is so much knowledge to tap into from the people you are building relationships with. I would never have reached three years into The Growth Community without being able to turn to the support and advice from my most trusted connections.”
James: “And that’s where the idea for the podcast came from. We want to cover subjects that we wished we’d understood earlier in the process and to show other businesses the reality – not just the sanitized social media view. Running a business can, at times, be very tough. The more knowledge we have the more likely we’ll know how to deal with the challenges when they crop up and where we can go to for help. Every Day really should be a Business School Day and we need to make sure that we are listening in class and doing our homework if we are going to hit our next business milestone!”
What can we expect from Season One?
In Season One you can expect practical tips on 90 day planning, lead magnets, processing and automation, managing your finances, taking on your first member of staff and maximising your networking activity.
Each episode is fun, real and down to earth, covering simple and easy to apply topics – including some homework to get stuck into!
Who is Steve?
Throughout the season you’ll get to meet Steve. He’s our imaginary business owner who is on the archetypal business growth journey. He has helped us bring alive some of the challenges that many others are experiencing. Most of us can relate to ‘Steve’ in some way or other and all the stuff that he is coming up against.
Our guests have been able to explain to Steve in real terms how he can apply his newfound knowledge to support both his personal and business growth goals.
When can we listen?
The podcast launches on 10 August 2023 and can be found anywhere you like to listen to podcasts! After that the episodes will be released fortnightly. Make sure you are subscribed!
Recording has already begun for Season Two and Season Three is in the planning stages.
To learn more about how the podcast came together you can view Nicky and James’s LinkedIn Live event where they discussed how it all came together and how they hope the episodes will develop.
